Starting April 9th, 2025, we are introducing some significant changes to our AfterShip Protection Cart Extension capabilities.

We’re excited to announce that we are introducing some new updates to the AfterShip Protection Cart Extension, set to go live on April 9th, 2025. The update is aimed at enhancing the protection opt-in experience on Shopify. This change comes in response to the new Shopify app requirements, which mandate that apps must clearly display costs and obtain explicit buyer consent before adding any optional paid items to the Storefront, Cart, or Checkout.

What’s changing?

The updated cart extension introduces a more streamlined user experience with a couple of key changes:

Protection badge: A new visual indicator will appear, showing customers that AfterShip Protection is available and can be bought with the product.
Checkout button options: Two new buttons will replace the native Shopify checkout button in the cart:

Checkout plus: When clicked, this option adds the protection product to the order and displays the total value, including both the product subtotal and the protection fee.
Checkout without: Clicking this option (below the checkout plus CTA button) allows customers to proceed to checkout without adding the protection product.

Actions required from merchants

No action needed: The cart extension will automatically update to the new version on April 9th, 2025, with no action required from merchants.
Checkout extension: If you are only using the checkout extension, it will continue to work as usual. However, we recommend adding the cart extension for increased protection opt-in rates.
