Add Dynamic Promotional Banners to the Tracking Pages

Plans: All Enterprise Platforms: All platforms

Overview

Segmentation lets you deliver the right experience to the right customer by applying rules. While it’s commonly used to decide which tracking page a customer sees, you can also create multiple header messages and apply segmentation to target a group of customers only. Promotional banners focus on marketing goals like targeted promos, highlighting VIP offers, time-sensitive deals, or new arrivals on the tracking page.

Why use promotional banners?

  • Show the right promotion to the right customer (higher conversion rate).
  • It keeps customers engaged while they track orders.
  • Run targeted campaigns without changing your storefront.
  • Target a specific customer group and control messages using segmentation.

Add promotional banner to tracking page

  1. Go to Tracking pages in your AfterShip Tracking admin.
  2. Open the tracking page editor.

  1. From the left-hand panel, add a Header message section.
  2. Click Add from the right-hand panel.

  1. Under Settings, type the promotional message you want to display.

  1. Go to Style and adjust message fonts, colours, and more.

  1. To show multiple messages, enable auto-rotate slideshow and set the display time for each message.

  1. Arrange the order of messages by dragging them up or down.
  2. Click Save.

You can add multiple header messages to create a slideshow and adjust their order by dragging them up or down in the list.

Apply the segmentation rule for the promotional banner

Segmentation allows you to show different banners to different customer groups based on specific conditions.

  1. In the banner editor, Enable Segmentation.

  1. Click Default > Add Variation to create a new segment for the banner messages.

If a customer belongs to multiple segments, they will see the variation that’s higher in order. Adjust the order by dragging.

  1. Choose an existing segment, or click Create Segment to build a new one.

Create segment

Follow the steps to create a new segment for a promotional banner:

  1. Give a rule name for the segment.
  2. Choose either “All conditions are met” or “Any condition is met”.
  3. Under a certain category (e.g., order), click +Add conditions.
  4. Specify a condition that must be met for the banner to display.

  1. Under Active time, set the active period: Always or Specific time window
  2. Save the segment.

This is useful for limited-time promotions, e.g., Black Friday, Holiday sales. After the set period ends, the banner will automatically stop showing.

How segmentation works for promotional banners

It’s important to understand the difference between page segmentation and banner segmentation:

  • Tracking page segmentation: Decides which tracking page a customer will visit.
  • Banner segmentation: Decides which promotional messages customers see on that page.

They are independent features, but both pull from the same repository of segmentation rules.

Example:

Segment 1 → A customer is sent to Tracking Page A.

Segment 2 → On Tracking Page A, this customer sees a special discount banner (if they qualify for Segment 2).

This gives you flexibility to filter customers and design both the overall journey and the on-page promotional experience.

Disable segmentation for promotional banners

  1. Go to Tracking pages in your AfterShip Tracking admin.
  2. Open the tracking page editor.
  3. Click the three dots (...) in the variations section.
  4. Choose Disable Segmentation.

Additional considerations

  • You can create multiple segment variations, and each variation can have its own set of banners.
  • If a customer qualifies for more than one segment, banners will be shown according to the segment priority you set. Drag and reorder segments to decide which takes precedence.
  • Choose whether banners within a segment should auto-rotate like a slideshow or remain fixed on a single message.
  • If no segmentation rule is matched, the system will display your default banner
  • Promotional header messages support multiple languages based on customers’ preferences.
